Marigold

Marigold Photo

-Who hasn't planted a marigold seed in a paper cup in 4th grade science class?

These drought tolerant, low maintenance flowers can thrive under the care of 9 year olds- and will do just fine in your garden too!

There are varieties with single and double ruffly type blooms.

The orange is a bit harsh for my garden color pallete- but the soft yellows and creamy whites work well.

The height ranges from 6 " all the way up to 36" so check the variety and size to get the right height for your garden space.

Color Yellow, orange, bronze, gold, creamy white

Blooming Period

Summer until the first frost

Height

Mature height from 6" to 36 "

Uses

  • Great as a garden border

  • Attracts both hummingbirds and butterflies
  • Use the yellow as companion planting with blue petunias. Also works well integrated in an herb garden.

  • Perfect in pots on the patio or deck

  • Use in full sun gardens and areas.
  • Use as filler to your perrenial garden

    Care

These flowers are the hadiest. Remove faded flower to encourage re-blooming.

They are drought tolerant, but like moist well drained soil. Mulching will keep the roots moist.

Don't over-fertilize.Too much will create more leaves and less flowers!
