Garden Recycling 101

Have a Plant Swap, Recycle Garden Tools and Garden Furniture

Garden recycling........need more ideas to garden green and be eco friendly? Simple.Recycle……...recycle your tools, and even your plants that have multiplied .

You might have old containers and planters that you don’t use any more. These can be recycled by selling them at a yard sale, giving them away – or donating to a Thrift Shop or Goodwill.

More Ideas

  • Give your extra plants away –It can be hard to think about throwing out good plant specimens when you need to thin out overgrown and overzealous flowers. Let your neighbors and friends know that you plan on thinning out plants and will have extra for them. You’ll find that most of us gardeners have room for one more flower – especially when they don’t have to pay for it.

  • Sell your patio furniture on EBay or Craig’s List instead of leaving it for the garbage service to pick up. (Or put a sign that says F*ree on it and it’s bound to be picked up by someone who will use it.)

  • Have a yard sale with old containers, tools , and yard decorations. Donate the proceeds to your local public gardens or to a favorite charity.

  • Have a garden swap meet in your yard. - It may be your cast -off but another man's treasure!

Invite neighbors, family and friends to come with their garden tools, garden accessories, and overgrown hosta and flowers for a good old fashioned swap meet. It can be fun when you there is no cash – just bartering with gardening goods.

  • Recycled Garden Tools- Hang old useless rakes and garden tools on the side of your garden shed as artwork, or place in them in the garden for a sculptural accent.

  • Recycle the rain with a rain barrel

  • Composting is recycling at it's best

  • Refurbish you’re existing garden furniture and give it new life again. Sand, reupholster, paint, repair……whatever it takes. You’ll save money and have the new look that you wanted.

  • Re-use the old rusty wagon or wheelbarrow as a flower pots. Turn them into a container garden by adding potting medium, then plant easy-to-grow native flowers and plants.Add mulch on top of the soil so that it doesn’t dry out so fast. Place the wagon in a prime spot as a focal point in your garden.

  • Vegetable cans make great containers for herbs. ( or any small flower) Wash the cans out thoroughly, add a few stones on the bottom for drainage, then the organic container mix/soil, and finally add herbs started from seed or purchased. These make great welcome gifts for new neighbors or for any of your favorite gardeners …..

I hope these garden recycling tips have been helpful.

    Happy gardening!
