Alyssum

flower photo

Alyssum is an annual flower that I use all of the time because it is sweet - but also it's so low maintenance, and the bugs usually leave it alone.

They like cool weather, but can withstand some heat. Blooming time is from spring to frost.

Plant in a sunny spot, or partial sun, and notice the butterflies that will be attracted to to sweet smelling flower.

I usually buy a full flat of these container plants because it's so versatile, and I know I'll use a lot of it. It's also a great filler for the front of your garden when a low grower is needed.

Colors- you can usually find white, pink or purple.

Uses-

  • create borders

  • use as fillers for the areas of the garden that might bloom later in the season

  • great in container plantings

  • use to soften the look of garden walls and stone paths Note- if you are starting from seeds directly into the ground- the flowers will take much longer to bloom . Plan for that by starting the flowers from seed in early spring.

Use this flower in a Cottage Garden .
